What: AFL Semi-Final
Who: Geelong Cats vs North Melbourne Kangaroos
When: Friday September 12, 7.50pm (AEST)
Where: MCG Stadium
TV: Channel 7, Fox Footy, 7 mate (WA and northern states)

The Cats come into the game on a downer following their Qualifying Final defeat to the Hawthorn Hawks seven days ago, while the Kangaroos head in buoyant following their come-from-behind Elimination Final success over the Essendon Bombers.

North Melbourne may have had a six-day turnaround head into the showdown with the Cats, but they have the momentum having come from five goals down to eliminate the Bombers. The win took the Kangaroos' winning run to five games in what has been an impressive end to the season.

The question is, are they good enough to beat a Geelong side which has twice had their measure already this year? Geelong were 20 points at Simonds Stadium in Round 10 and they bettered that effort in Round 19 when handing out a 32-point defeat to the Kangaroos at Etihad Stadium.

Although the Cats were downed by Hawthorn, they remain one of AFL's form sides having won eight of their last 10 games. The only two defeats both came at the hands of the Hawks.

North Melbourne would have to defy history if they are to defeat Geelong, with no top four side having suffered back-to-back finals defeats since 2007. The West Coast Eagles were the last team to suffer that fate and remain one of only two sides to suffer double defeat. On the other 26 occasions, the team beaten have in qualifying finals have bounced back with semi-final victory.

Geelong have dominated North Melbourne down the years too, winning 95 of the 155 meetings between the two sides. That includes 10 of the last 12 encounters between the Cats and Kangaroos and, perhaps, even more tellingly a 14-7 head-to-head record at the MCG.

There is a lot to like about North Melbourne's form and their attitude in coming from behind against the Bombers last week, but facing the Cats is an entirely tougher proposition.

Geelong's second-half capitulation last week was their undoing in a game that was tied level at the break and finely poised. The Cats have more finals experience and an impressive record against the Kangaroos and they should progress to a Preliminary Final with the Swans.

The Kangaroos will be boosted by the return of Brent Harvey from suspension and Leigh Adams and Lachie Hansen are in with chances of being fit.
